Erik Michael Poole

Today is my brothers birthday . Its his first birthday since his death last year . I've been thinking a lot about how this day should go, should I be sad , should I celebrate the time we had with him. I think it should be a little of both . For those of you who didn't get a chance to meet him I'll give you a quick run down. Erik was a big bro , an athlete , a husband , a son , an embryoligist , and a great friend to name a few. He lived in Chicago with his wife Sherri , their dog cooper , in their beautiful house in oak park . I miss you bro , and I'll always look up to you .

I went to high school with Erik at Coconut Creek and was a year older than he was. I was also the athletic trainer for all the sports teams and on yearbook staff...both with Erik. I just found out today of his passing and it broke my heart. I had thought of him often over the years and I was sorry that we lost contact after I left for college. I have been searching to try and reach him for the last couple years, because he kept coming up so strongly in my mind...I think that I know why now. Although we lost touch so long ago, I have always thought of him fondly and considered him a friend. I am so, so sorry that I missed the chance to tell him that in person. He was one of the few people that I enjoyed being around in high school, he was a genuinely nice guy, and the news of his passing has hit me so hard today. I am so devastated for your loss and ultimately mine as well. I will miss him dearly and with regret. I hope that you and your family have found some comfort since he left...hopefully, I will find some too. I hope you don't think that I am foolish, since we had not spoken in so long, but he was part of the few good memories I had from that part of my life...high school was a better place with him there. I am sorry...and I will grieve him in my own way...blessed be. John Engle, c/o '88.
